Charity Concert Report

What an amazing finish to this first big phase of the Tweenager project, raising money to support the children of  Matumaini School.

Saturday night was the ultimate fundraiser and with any event you plan, there is always that niggling worry .... will people come ... will we fill our hall .... will it be a good evening?

Well - any concerns we had just melted away as the time arrived for people to find their seats.

Both the Kent Police Male Voice Choir and the South London Fellowship Band did us proud! The choice of music really helped make the evening an upbeat occasion, we had items that made our feet tap alongside items that gave time for reflection.

A very big THANK YOU to both the Choir and the Band for agreeing to the joint concert .... the evening had something for everyone. I don't think anyone went away disappointed.

For those who came along to support the event - we thank you. There was a great atmosphere and  I am sure you will have felt encouraged and inspired by the young people. And I must say a thank you to those who donated the ticket money although you could not physically be with us. We can say that we live streamed a couple of items and as we sat and enjoyed them, there were 3 people in New York also watching! Technology is amazing.

And my thanks turn to the young people themselves, whose determination and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of the children has been tremendous. They were interviewed on stage during the evening and each one showed this passion and love for the kids we will be meeting. The Tweenagers have had a busy 15 months and as we watched a presentation in pictures of all their hard work ... the hall was full of very proud family, friends, church family members smiling!

There were two other special moments during the evening that were a surprise to the Tweenagers. Firstly the Chief Secretary of the UK and Ireland territory, Colonel David Hinton sent a video message as he could not be with us for the evening. He sent words if thanks and if encouragement to the youngsters.

Secondly, in just a few days time 13 of us will be travelling to Tanzania to be with the children of Matumaini. During the concert we were able to show a video of the children in Matumaini singing a welcome song to us ... ' Karibu - welcome, welcome, welcome to Matumaini'
