Tweenagers to visit Tanzania !!

January 18, 2017

And here is something exciting!

Back in February last year when the Tweenagers first met to talk about what our project could look like, some of us wondered if it would even be possible for us to visit the school in Tanzania.

Our Tweenager leaders listened to our dreams & well…..could it ever be possible?

Thanks to the FundRaising Team at THQ – the funding has been provided for us to visit and meet the children in Matumaini School.

So on 26th May, 11 of our Church family will be heading off to Tanzania. We are so excited!

Even those of the Tweenagers who are not travelling with us will still be involved in our preparations. We have made 200 pencil cases by hand which we will be taking with us so that each child can have one of their own.

And it wont stop here – because with the help of Major Nigel, it is intended that Matumaini will become our Corps Mission partner, so as a whole corps we can continue to help make a difference to the children’s lives in years to come.

So please keep the Tweenagers in your prayers as we prepare for our trip to Tanzania, and in particular while we are there.

God is amazing and we feel excited to have this great opportunity to come alongside some of the children to share with them.

Handmade Craft Sale

January 18, 2017

After 3 busy months for the Tweenagers in making over 100 items, we were ready for our Christmas craft sale.

We had one strict criteria for the day, and that was everything we sold had to be home-made. What an array of items we had!

Some of the things the tweenagers made included :

Decoupage signs for the home, ceramic vases, ceramic plant holders, flower pot clocks, tea light holders, picture frames, decoupage trays, Christmas tree decorations from salt dough, fabric bags, money boxes, and biscuits.

We were thrilled at the kindness of our families and our church family for all the things they made and contributed for us to sell - this included:

Cookie recipe jars, hot chocolate mugs, cakes made all from sweets, Viennese whirls, cakes, scarves, beautiful fabric bags, cards, baby clothes and even a knitted nativity.

People were able to have a go at guessing the weight of the decorated Christmas cake ....  congratulations to Penny for winning! We hope you enjoyed it! And Well done Vanessa and Ryan for winning the huge jar of sweets. You guessed the number within just a few. . . Let's hope you still have some left!

All in all, a great morning and we thank everyone who shared in the event - whether it was through visiting us on the day, or by kindly taking the time to make items.

We raised a tremendous £429

13 miles - no problem!

November 09, 2016

On a warm sunny morning in October Chris Boughton slipped into his running shoes and stepped out to run the Henley Half marathon. Accompanied by his brother-in-law Iain Hudson the pair made 13 miles of jogging around the beautiful Berkshire town a breeze as they joined 800 other keen contestants.

Chris recorded a fantastic time just under the 2 hour mark, and even included a sprint to the finish as he was cheered on by friends and family. Conditions were perfect as he was raced along the banks of the river Thames, ending the run at Henley Rugby club.

The Tweenagers would like to thank Chris for offering to raise money for the Matumaini project, and are so grateful that he has managed to raise over £660 towards their cause. WELL DONE CHRIS and THANK YOU!!

Chris Runs Henley !

September 24, 2016

On Sunday 9th October Chris Boughton will set out to run 13 miles of the Henley Half Marathon in support of the Chatham Tweenagers project to raise funds for the Matumaini School in Tanzania.

Chris has been training hard over the last few months and is aiming to complete his challenge in under 2 hours and raise an amazing £500 !!

Starting with a "shuffle" at the beginning of the summer Chris has built up his training to a full jog, and is now in final training as he sprints towards his maiden run in 10 days time (Sun 9th October).   Taking time from his very busy schedule Chris has been seen early in the morning pounding the streets of Walderslade as he gets into shape for the big event. Even on his holiday Chris kept the training going in 30 degree heat and jogged around the beaches of Calonge in Spain. It is unlikely to be roasting hot when he takes on Henley but Chris will be giving his all to complete the course and raise as much money as possible for Matumaini school.

Chatham Tweenagers Project Manager Ethan shared this comment "The Tweenagers are really pleased and proud that Chris is running the marathon for the Matumaini School project - we want to wish him well and good luck on the day......Go, Go, Go, Chris!!".

Looking Good.........

September 08, 2016

A real sense of belonging and togetherness is growing within the Tweenagers community!

To help them feel even better about the project and working as a team the Tweenagers have created their own logo which they have printed onto T-Shirts.....Take a look at the picture alongside and see how great they are looking.

The support and interest shown by all of the Church family is a massive support and encouragement as these children look to make a difference in the lives of other children less fortunate than themselves. The Tweenagers want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has helped in any way so far, and hope that you will continue to show an interest in the project as it continues over the next few months.

The Big Breakfast

September 08, 2016

They say an Army marches on it's stomach.....well the Tweenagers with the help of Eric Slater held a Big Breakfast event in early September. A great turn out from Church friends and family at The Salvation Army hall in Church Street helped raised  Â£110 to go towards the Matumaini School project.

A full English Breakfast was on the menu alongside healthier options of fruit and yoghurt...Yum! The Tweenagers worked tirelessly to help keep a big crowd of hungry customers happy.

Well done to Katy, Becky and Erin for all your efforts in running a great morning.

Bootfair....Take Two !!

August 22, 2016

The Tweenagers ventured out to their second bootfair to continue their mission of raising funds for Matumaini School in Tanzania.

An early start for the girls at 5.30am showed their dedication and committment - but they managed to keep going all morning. Alongside handing out "Kids Alive" magazines to any passing children and occasionally bursting into song, they managed to raise an incredible £392.  A massive great big well done to Erin, Jodie and Katy - you were amazing !!

Tweenagers hit the Bootfairs !!

July 30, 2016

The Tweenagers are at it again with more events to raise funds for the Matumaini School Project. This time they are out and about very early in the morning to set up stall at two local bootfairs.

One event has already taken place led by Ethan who squeezed everything from a bike to an Air conditioner into his car to sell at the famous Wetmoor Farm Bootfair, in Rainham on July 17th.  Ethan managed to raise £120 to the cause - Well Done Ethan!!

But that is not the end - On Sunday August 7th other members of the Tweenagers team will be heading off to Gravesend to once again set up camp at a Bootfair. This time it will not just be a corner shop, but more like a full Department store as three cars will be bursting to the seams with items of interest for the regular Booters !!

We wish them well on their adventure and every success with the fund raising efforts. If you would like to donate any items for the Bootfair or just help out on the day then please feel free to contact Tracy via the email address below....
